VST3 plugins failing to scan in Patchd

Hi Patchd Support,

I’ve just started testing Patchd with a new virtual mixer setup, and I’m having trouble scanning two of my VST3 plugins.

The following plugins are being skipped during the scan:

Waveshell-VST3 16.0_X64.vst3 — “Stopped responding, and may be waiting on a license window”

uaudio_610_6.vst3 — “Crashed when Patchd tried to read it”

There are also several other UA-related VST3 plugins that fail with the same “crashed when Patchd tried to read it” message.

My suspicion is that these plugins may require something beyond a standard VST3 scan, such as a shell/host process, authentication, or a license/login window. They work normally in my regular DAW environment.

Could you let me know whether Patchd currently supports scanning/loading plugins that use these kinds of licensing or shell mechanisms? If so, is there a specific configuration or workaround required?

Patchd scans VST3 plugins the standard way, and there's no special setting for shell or licensed plugins. Each plugin file is opened in a separate helper program, so a plugin that crashes or hangs during a scan can't take your audio down with it. Here's what went wrong with each.

**Waveshell-VST3 ("Stopped responding")**: that one is on us, and we're fixing it in the next update. WaveShell is one file that holds every Waves plugin you have installed, and the scan has to open each of them in turn. Patchd gave each file 20 seconds, and a big WaveShell needs longer than that, so the scan gave up on it. The license window in that message was a wrong guess. After the update, the scan keeps going as long as the plugin is still making progress.

**The UA plugins ("Crashed")**: the plugin's own code stopped the helper while Patchd was reading it, and we don't know why yet. The next update records exactly how each skipped plugin failed. Once you've updated, run the scan again, then send us a report from Settings > Beta: Send Report, and we'll look into it from there. If you don't see that page, reply here instead.

It would also help to know which UA plugins they are (the UAD versions that run on a UA interface or accelerator, or the native UADx versions), whether a UA interface or UAD accelerator is connected, and which DAW they work in.
